Series Introduction

Welcome to the next evolution of the "Meet Me In..." research series. The goal of the series has always been to educate, create awareness, and highlight key facts about where, how and why the physical networks that make up the world's information infrastructure meet.

Dallas

Then

The original series featured LayerOne, a neutral colocation facility tenant, at 2323 Bryan Street and the building designated Meet Me Room, Collocation Solutions, at 1950 N Stemmons Freeway, also known then as InfoMart. 2323 Bryan was definitely the main carrier hotel of the day in Dallas, but the InfoMart at 1.6 million square feet, and with its larger floor plates, was definitely poised for growth. Over the years both facilities and buildings have traded and are now owned by Digital Realty Trust and Equinix, respectively. The original series referenced 40 networks at LayerOne, 2323 Bryan and 16 at Collocation Solutions, InfoMart. There were no Internet Exchanges listed at either facility.

Now

The research shows that 1950 N Stemmons has surpassed 2323 Bryan in terms of the number of Facilities (9 to 2) and Internet Exchanges (8 to 6) present. Looking more closely at the number of ASN’s available though it is relatively close (484 to 474). Of particular note is the amazing growth of the city’s overall interconnection landscape over the past 20 years.

Dallas Internet Exchanges

Dallas now has 11 Internet Exchanges accessible from 28 Facilities within 18 different addresses. The largest, Equinix Dallas, has 193 ASN’s and the smallest, BB IX Dallas, has 3. The difference between the largest and 2nd largest, DE-CIX Dallas with 128 ASN’s, is 65.

The Top 5 Networks, by number of IX’s connected to, are Hurricane Electric, Google, Microsoft, Edgio and CloudFlare.

The data tables below display live data on all IXs in the region outlined in this map image.

Dallas - Networks by Internet Exchange

Networks (ASN’s) are listed as “accessible” via an IX. Accessibility is on a VLAN basis. This does not imply that the networks are physically present in the Facility. To know if a network accessible on an IX is also physically present in the same Facility as the IX please visit the NV Research Facilities Page (see list below this table).
