Chapter 3: Meet Me and Big Apps Articles

Now that I had defined what a Meet Me Room was, I set about identifying where they were and who owned them. Based upon the Nexus Series, I then pitched a publisher of a U.S.-based industry magazine, Fat Pipe, (a euphemism for broadband) to let me write a monthly article on the Meet Me Rooms of North America, called the “Meet Me In…” series. I explained to him what it was and that it was a growing, new dimension of the telecom landscape. A new asset class and vertical in the industry. He liked the idea, so he let me do it.

The “Meet Me In…” series ran for two years from 2003-2004. I covered 21 North American Markets, 19 in the U.S and 2 in Canada. In 2005, I went back and wrote a new series called “The Big Apps” covering 10 of the original 21 markets, but this time featured the new technology services of the day, Ethernet and VoIP, and the service providers that were present and available in the same sites I featured in the original Meet Me series. The following articles are re-prints of the original “Meet Me” and “Big Apps” series articles.
